“The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” movie review.

by Rosa Parra.

“The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” is directed by Peter Browngardt and features the voices of Eric Bauza, Candi Milo, Peter MacNicol, Wayne Knight, and Laraine Newman. The film follows friends Daffy Duck and Porky Pig as they take on the unexpected responsibility of saving the world from an alien threat.

Daffy and Porky grew up in the same household, and as adults, they become responsible for maintaining their home. When their house fails a routine inspection due to a large hole in the roof, they decide to find jobs in order to earn money to repair it.

This animated movie is a delightful, enjoyable, and humorous 90-minute adventure. Its hand-drawn 2D animation gives a nostalgic and authentic feel to the characters. This film marks the first fully animated feature-length film in Looney Tunes history, and I’m excited to say that it successfully delivers a fun and vibrant experience.

As someone who grew up watching these cartoons, I felt nostalgic as I reminisced about them. The jokes are silly but remind me of the original cartoon series, while also successfully incorporating contemporary elements such as social media and other culturally relevant topics.

Overall, this film is a great time at the theater. These Tunes are definitely Looney. -The Latino Slant

The film’s storyline can be correlated with current events. In the story, an alien attempts to mind control every human on Earth by offering a meticulously crafted chewing gum. This gum contains chemicals and artificial flavorings that suppress brain function, making humans easier to control. This concept is not far removed from what is happening in the food industry, particularly regarding highly processed foods. Much of the food available in grocery stores has been heavily processed, which can negatively impact our health.

The movie offers a beautiful tribute to friendship, individuality, legacy, loyalty, and the true meaning of heroism. It maintains a strong element of slapstick comedy while incorporating a tongue-in-cheek approach. Younger audiences will enjoy the fun, and those who grew up with the cartoons are likely to find it entertaining as well.

Overall, this film is a great time at the theater. These Tunes are definitely Looney. Much respect to the animators, voice performers, and director for staying true to these characters while also updating them for newer audiences.
