Finally the once shelved Coyote vs. Acme film is seeing the light of day. But the main question is, should it? Coyote vs. Acme was once infamously a tax write off, but thanks to those at Ketchup Entertainment, the film had a wide release on August 28th, 2026. I was lucky enough to see the film early, so let’s get into it.

Directed by Dave Green, co-written by Samy Burch, James Gunn (yes that one), and Jeremy Slater, you can absolutely tell this is a passion project that had lots of love and attention to detail poured into it. From the inclusion of characters, to the jokes, to even the storyline itself, you can feel the genuine adoration in how these creatives saw the Looney Tunes property. The very plot itself is genius as essentially it follows Wile E. Coyote suing Acme for their faulty devices. Other hijinks ensue of course, and the cast is definitely up to the task.

Starring the likes of John Cena, Will Forte and Lana Candor, not only is this a star-studded cast, but the majority of them commit to their admittedly silly roles. But that’s exactly what you need from the cast. Will Forte playing off of Wile E. Coyote, as the human lead of the film, is truly inspired. He’s this lazy lawyer who unwillingly gets put on this massive case thanks to Mr. Coyote, and his arc, albeit simple, is funny and heartwarming. John Cena plays an evil lawyer for the Acme company, and the amount of scenery he chews in this, it’s almost as if he were a live action Looney Tune himself. There’s a scene in which he’s talking to Tweety Bird, and it’s genuinely my favorite scene in the entire film. As for Lana Candor, although she plays my least favorite of the main characters, I think that has much more to do with her writing as opposed to her performance.

All in all, Coyote vs. Acme is one of those films that will always be tied to the circumstances it went through in order to get released. The very plot archetype the film itself follows almost gives the movie an extra layer of meta commentary. I find it genius to have the plot be this little guy vs evil big corporation. Especially with how the film makes you sympathize with Wile E. Coyote of all the characters that Looney Tunes has to offer. That itself is extremely impressive.

That isn’t to say the film is without its faults. The movie is a bit too long, which affects its pacing. Also, there are some moments where I didn’t love the use of certain characters. It almost felt clunky at times going from act to act. But none of these issues sink the film for me. I had a smile on my face for the majority of the runtime and still definitely recommend this movie for anyone to check out in theaters. So, to answer the question in the title of this review: Yes, not only was Coyote vs. Acme worth saving, but it’s worth seeing on the big screen with your whole family.
