The Blue Beetle Lives on the DCU!

There have been very few successful super hero films in the past few years. Technically even Blue Beetle did poorly at the theaters. However great word of mouth has helped the origin story of Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle gain a streaming cult following. Here at the Slant, we were the first to cover each production update and its eventual theater release. Time and time again since we have gotten emails and comments on how much people have enjoyed the film now that they saw it on Max. Also adding that many were sorry to have missed it in the theaters. Well, The Blue Beetle lives on!

“Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are developing an animated series based on the popular character with Miguel Puga (exec producer of Nickelodeon’s The Casagrandes) tapped as the showrunner and director, and Cristian Martinez (Good Trouble) set as the series’ writer. Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alocer, who directed and wrote the 2023 live-action feature respectively, will exec producer the show as well as John Rikard who was also the executive producer of the movie. The show will be overseen by Galen Vaisman for DC Studios.”

Even rising star Xolo Mariduena who played Jaime in the feature film, shared the moment online, posting to his instagram. As well as the project’s showrunner/director Miguel Puga.

Lastly the #BlueBeetleBattalion movement has never died, as their inception in the summer of 2023 inspired many community screenings across the US, are now ecstatic with this new development. Big props to those OG fans from the comics as well. We will be watching this animated project when is releases?
