CinemaCon 2026 Day 1: Sony Pictures Delivers Major Reveals and First Looks

  • Nate Bergatze delivered a much-needed comedy routine before introducing Mandy Moore, who stars with him in The Breadwinner, set to be released on May 29th. The clip looks fantastic! It seems to be a family-friendly comedy enjoyed by all. 
  • Tom Rothman, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group, highlighted the disparity between pre-COVID numbers and current figures. He calls on theaters to extend viewing windows, reduce ads and commercials, and lower ticket prices to make theaters more affordable for families. Rothman emphasizes the importance of these changes by speaking straightforward facts. While some theater owners remained silent in response, others responded with enthusiastic applause, clearly understanding his message.

  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to release on July 31. We received an early sneak peek of two upcoming posters teasing the film, along with an early clip. In the clip, Peter faces the consequences of his sacrifice. It looks pretty cool and feels more emotional. 
  • Adam Bergman, president of Sony Pictures Releasing, announced that the trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further will be released this August. The partnership with Crunchyroll has helped expand the anime genre nationwide. More films, including Demon Slayer and Chainsaw Man, are also expected to be released.

  • Zach Cregger, director of Resident Evil (his first project since Weapons), is here to discuss the film. It releases on September 18th, and we’re getting a teaser. The trailer looks haunting yet impressive, and I found myself unable to look away, despite wanting to.
Nicole Brown, president of Tristar Pictures, took the stage to discuss "Klara and the Sun" - an upcoming project starring Jenna Ortega. - The Latino Slant

  • Nicole Brown, president of Tristar Pictures, discusses October 23rd’s release of Klara and the Sun, starring Jenna Ortega and directed by Taika Waititi. Based on a novel, the trailer looked promising and reminded me of JoJo Rabbit. Another adaptation, The Nightingale, based on Kristin Hannah’s novel about two sisters, is set for release on February 12, 2027.
  • Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, is here to discuss Grandgear on February 18, 2028. Takashi Yamazaki will direct the project. It looks quite impressive. The Legend of Zelda has just wrapped up production and is set for release on May 7, 2027. Additionally, they are announcing an animated film adaptation of Bloodborne. Helldivers, directed by Justin Lin and starring Jason Mamoa, is scheduled for release on November 10, 2027.

  • The Social Reckoning, a companion film to The Social Network, is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who discusses the film here. He states it is based on true events. October 9, 2026. The footage appears promising and could be a strong candidate for awards.
  • Kristine Belson, president of Sony Pictures Animation, discusses Buds, a comedy about a plant interacting with a human, releasing Dec 2027. 
Chris Miller, Bob Persichetti, and Justin K Thompson previewed the opening sequence of "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse." - The Latino Slant

  • Chris Miller, Phil Lord, Bob Persichetti, and Justin K Thompson discuss Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and preview the opening sequence, which looks quite impressive. It’s remarkable how a medium I thought I knew well can still surprise me. The film appears phenomenal and possibly even surpasses its predecessors. Release date: June 18, 2027.
Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, and Kevin Hart promoting their upcoming "Jumanji" sequel - "Jumanji: Open World." - The Latino Slant

  • Finally, the sequel to Jumanji was announced. Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart appeared to discuss it. They looked extremely intoxicated but still managed to entertain. The film is set for release on Christmas Day. I watched a sneak peek of the movie but didn’t find it particularly impressive. The official title is Jumanji: Open World
