Ted (2024) Series Review

by Tyler Disney

Back in 2012 “Ted” a comedy film directed by Seth MacFarlane, known for his hit TV shows, “Family Guy” and “The Orville,” was a huge hit with audiences and became the highest-grossing comedy film of 2012. The movie centered around John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) and his anthropomorphic teddy bear, Ted(voiced by MacFarlane), who comes to life as a result of a childhood wish. Then a sequel Ted 2 came out in 2015 and it was a bomb.

Now a couple years later, Ted is back. This time on the small screen, on a successful streaming service well a streaming service called Peacock. So what dose Hollywood do when a sequel bombs and cant think of a story for the third installment? You got it, they make a prequel tv show. The series takes place in the early 90s, I want to say 1993 when John Bennett is in high school. What could go wrong when your growing up with a foul mouth teddy bear?

The show stars Max Burkholder ( Parenthood, The Purge, Daddy Day Care,) as John Bennett, Alanna Ubach (Legally blonde) as Susan Bennett, Scott Grimes( Party of Five) as Matty Bennett and Giorgia Whigham (The Punisher, 13 reasons why) as Blaire Bennett.

I’m going to give you what I do like and what I don’t like about the show.

LIKES: What I do like is the relationship between Ted and John especially in early 90s era, where they are finding out what porn is for the first time as well as weed and other drugs. The writing and the comedy in this show its very witty, meta and each character in this seven episodic season has there own storyline. Blaire Bennett is a great example of this, she’s a positive role model in there lives so they won’t get into trouble…as much. The show is very heartfelt and full of great 90s references from Lori Loughlin to Flash Gordon.

This is gonna pain me in heart and here is what I didn’t like about Ted .

DISLIKES: Streaming Services need to stop doing 7 or 8 episodes seasons because its way too short. It feels like the writers and show runners are rushing the development of alot of these characters. Which was not the case in the films. Honestly, audiences are tired of these short seasons. Back in the day there was like 20 episodes per season and it kept the audience engaged. Finally, what also bothers me about Ted was the intro score to each scene, it felt like I was watching Family Guy with the little tunes.

Overall I enjoyed myself watching the Ted prequel series, bring on season two!

My score for the show is 8/10 .
