Recent SAG awards video package honors all cept…Latinos!
Shame on the SAG awards and Hollywood’s consistent erasure of brown/latino stories from their history. In a video montage of over two minutes paying homage to Los Angeles and all the great films showcasing the city of angels, they only had a brief clip of Chech Marin saying “I was born in East L.A.”
Hollywood, you forgot a few…”La Bamba,” “Zoot Suit,” “Blood in, Blood Out,” “Mi Familia,” “Boulevard Nights,” “Real Women Have Curves,” “Mi VIda Loca,” “El Chicano,” “Star Maps” “El Norte,” “Stand and Deliver,” “Babylon,” all films set in Los Angeles whether historical or fiction, showcasing this amazing town.
Several of these films are on The National Film Registry is a list of “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” motion pictures. Guess ya’ll forgot that as well. But ya got Cheech, seems congruent with Hollywood bigoted portrayals of Latinos.
