Slant Film Critics Oscar Picks

The awards season for the year of 2023 is coming to an end with the 96th Academy Awards. So We decided to give our picks in the fifteen major categories. We get a little unconventional in our picks but as you will, we have fun in our thought process. We ask Rosa Parra, Alfredo Galindo and Paulie for their choices. They give them and then some.

Oppenheimer is Nominated in 13 categories, director Christopher Nolan’s biopic of the “father of the atomic bomb” J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Rosa Parra’s Picks. I think this will be an Oppenheimer sweep 🤗 I’m guessing it’ll win the following.

– Best Picture

– Director

– Supporting Actor

– Actor

– Score

– Cinematography

– Editing

Alright to the next categories.

– Best Actress (Lily Gladstone)

– Best Supporting Actress (Da’Vine Joy Randolph)

– Best Animated (The Boy and the Heron)

– International (Zone of Interest)

– Screenplay (Anatomy of a Fall)

– Adapted Screenplay (American Fiction)

– Visuals (Godzilla Minus One)

– Song (What was I Made for?)

Winner already of thePalme d’Or. Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay. The César Award for Best Film, Anatomy of a Fall has over-performed this entire awards season. At the Oscars, it made not only the long list for Best Picture, but also the shorter lists for Best Director for Justine Triet.

The Boy and the Heron was already won Best Animated film from Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards and The Golden Globes.

Alfredo’s Picks.

I agree with Rosa in all, but also predicting a tie between Lily Gladstone and Emma Stone. Regards to Paulie’s picks for Best Actor, Score and Cinematography, I agree. Who might and who will In some; Paul Giamatti might as Best Actor, but Cillan Murphy will win it. Score – Oppenheimer, but Robbie Robertson might. Cinematography Oppenheimer, but Prieto might. Society of Snow might (after Netflix former Best International wins of Roma and All Quiet on the Western Front) but The Zone of Interest will win (Society for Makeup instead,) and finally Robot Dreams might, but The Boy and The Heron will win.
