“Utterly Human and Utterly Fantastic.”

Warner Brothers Presentation
Pam Abdy and Mike DeLuca both took the stage to lead the Warner Bros. presentation. They discussed the upcoming film Minecraft, which will be released on April 4, 2025, and described it as a fun and entertaining experience for audiences.
Next, they moved on to their April 18 release of “Sinners,” directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan. We viewed a video message from Coogler in which he referred to the movie as his personal love letter to cinema and the in-theater experience. He also mentioned that this is his most personal film to date, as it pays homage to several family members.

The next film showcased was “One Battle After Another,” directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. This social-political drama features an impressive cast, including Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio del Toro, and Alana Haim. To my surprise, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and DiCaprio were in attendance. The three walked on stage to discuss their characters and their experiences working with PTA.
Leonardo DiCaprio expressed his eagerness to collaborate with PTA, noting that he had wanted to work with him for nearly 20 years. He was drawn to the project because of its scope, scale, and political themes, and he appreciated PTA’s approach to allowing actors to improvise. Regina Hall spoke graciously about the collaborative effort among the cast and expressed her enjoyment in working with her colleagues and director.
Teyana Taylor portrays a rather unlikable character in the film. Following the discussion, we were shown a sneak peek clip that I found quite impressive! The film is set to release on September 26, 2025. While PTA’s work doesn’t always resonate with me, the trailer and the footage we were able to see left me feeling optimistic that this film will be one I enjoy, at least for the most part.
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s film “The Bride” is set to be released in March of next year. Both Maggie and Jessie Buckley, who plays the Bride, were present at the event. After directing “The Lost Daughter,” Maggie sought a different project. She wanted to create a stylish and edgy version of the Bride of Frankenstein character. The inspiration came when she saw a tattoo of the bride on someone’s arm, prompting her to reflect on the fact that the character, despite the film being named after her, only appears for three minutes and has no dialogue.
Motivated by this realization, Maggie wrote the script and decided to direct the film as well. Jessie describes “The Bride” as wild and unique, claiming it’s the most punk love story ever told. The trailer looks incredible—stylish, brutal, modern, and striking. Many industry professionals in attendance agree that the film seems reminiscent of what a Joker and Harley Quinn movie could have looked like. I can’t wait to see it!
Next, it was Richard Braner from New Line Cinema’s turn to present. The following announcements primarily focused on release dates and confirmations of upcoming films. “Mortal Kombat 2” is set to release this October, “The Conjuring: Last Rites” will come out in September, and “Final Destination: Bloodlines” is also releasing soon. We were shown an extended clip of this film, which features two brothers attempting to cheat death by committing suicide in a hospital, only to be resuscitated afterward. While the clip was intriguing, I’m not particularly interested in these films so I won’t be watching it. It looks good, but it’s not for me.
Then there was “Weapons,” directed by Zach Cregger, the same director who made “Barbarian.” The teaser we saw was haunting and twisted. It follows a school teacher whose entire class mysteriously goes missing. “F1” by director Joseph Kasinski (same director from Top Gun Maverick). Brad Pitt not only produces and stars in the film but he also drives himself at high speeds. The first ten minutes of the movie is being shown. Very much TG Mverick vibes. Looks great!
Warner Brothers Animation – The Cat in The Hat, MargieClause (Xmas film), Bad Fairies (musical), Dynamic Duo, The Lunar Chronicles, Oh The Places You’ll Go, Bill Hader is here to talk about The Cat in the Hat (he voices the Cat). Releases February next year. Trailer has a variation of animation. Looks okay.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are in attendance to discuss the upcoming July release of “Superman.” The film features Superman, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor, portrayed by David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, respectively. Gunn describes the movie as both “utterly human and utterly fantastic.”
It’s heartwarming to witness the bond among these three actors; their genuine camaraderie is palpable even from where I’m seated. David understands the significance of portraying a character that has been a part of the public consciousness for decades. All three actors bring a level of humanity and seriousness to their roles, making this film important.
I’ve always admired Gunn’s approach to filmmaking, which seems to foster a family-like atmosphere on set, reminiscent of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” production. Their camaraderie is evident. Not only is Superman a kind and compassionate character, but Gunn also embodies those same values in his work.
The film promises an epic adventure coupled with a profound love story and a powerful score. After seeing a sneak peek of “Superman,” I can confidently say that this will be a moving, epic, and relatable take on the superhero genre.
