Well, there’s so much to talk about in regards to this highly entertaining martial arts film drama from Hong Kong. It works on so many levels. one level is the very real issue of children trafficking, children being disappeared taken from and they don’t back away from just how dark and evil that can be. Another level is the innovative, gritty practical fights. There is virtually no AI or CG or wire work in the martial arts choreography.

The fight choreography & cinematography working with the camera is just at times jaw dropping, brutal relentless and very emotional. The other level here is that the film doesn’t back away from being over the top with their villains, creating some of the most unique, dark characters I have not seen in action films for quite some time. The lead villain is nothing short or evil in a two piece suit with absolutely incredible fighting techniques.
Finally, this movie is nothing without it’s two male leads, representing one a Husband who was lost his wife, herself journalist, trying to investigate the missing children in a south east Asian city, who goes missing. The other is a father who is mute and mysterious in regards to his combat and training skills, as he desperately searches for his lost daughter. Their performances are absolutely raw, real, and so visibly present that you cannot help but cheer for every victorious moment,. This is one of the more entertaining films if not, the best action film of the year.

The Asian actors speak in English as well in certain, with accessible captions and because our lead is a mute, the language of a revenge driven Father is universal. Hong Kong reminds us what is really like to create a widely entertaining martial arts drama, and they remind us why they are truly, indeed the masters of this genre. The movie is released here in the states by Lionsgate. Out in theaters now, you need to see it on the big screen, then hold onto your seats.
Rating. 9.5/10.
